SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Columbian Year 2008 


GOAL

The goal of the Knights of Columbus Council 6226 Scholarship Program is to provide monetary grants to eligible students to help them defray the cost of college.

A maximum of $3,000 is to be awarded in three individual scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. The Applicant is a child or grandchild of a member in good standing of the Cranford Knights of Columbus Council 6226, living or deceased.

OR

The Applicant is a registered member of Saint Michael's Parish of Cranford

  1. The Applicant is a graduating senior and will be attending a college or junior college in the fall of the year that the scholarship application is submitted.
  1. The Applicant has achieved a high school average of at least 3.0 as of the end of junior year.
  1. The Applicant has been accepted into at least one college or junior college.       

                                   

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The Scholarship application must be completed and emailed to the Scholarship Committee no later than April 25, 2008. Please complete the online application.

In addition, you must mail an official High School Transcript to:

SELECTION CRITERIA 

The selection criterion is divided into three sections. The highest possible score is 100 points.                

The three sections are:             

  1. High School Academic Record (maximum score of 40 points)
    1. Transcript through the first semester of senior year
    2. Number of Honors/ AP Courses taken
    3. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Scores
  1. Community Service Record During High School (maximum score of 40 points) 

List of organizations including a contact person and phone number for each organization            

    1. Affiliation with Cranford Knights of Columbus
    2. Church Service
    3. Community Service
    4. Extra-curricular activities
  1. Interview (maximum of 20 points)

As a part of the interview process you will be required to submit an essay which describes how you have lived and how you will continue to live by the principles of our order; charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.

Interviews will be held during the month of May and will be granted to the top applicants based on points accumulated in the first two areas of the Selection Criteria
